What kind of a difference do new
speakers really make?
You'll find that replacing your
factory fitted speakers can make a difference that
you'll definitely hear. Music sounds crisper and
more dynamic, closer to the way it was recorded and
better than it would with a worn-out or low-quality
speaker.
Speaker replacement is among the
most cost-effective car audio upgrades you can
perform. The trouble is that even the newer
factory-installed speaker systems, which may sound
OK at first, are usually not built to give you the
years of reliable, ear-pleasing sound you can expect
from a good pair of Kenwood aftermarket speakers.

How difficult will my new speakers
be to install?
You can count on a simple
installation with any of our full-range speakers. In
most cases, a new pair of speakers is about the
easiest component to install in your vehicle. For a
more detailed look at what's involved, have a look
at our car speaker on this site.
How do a speaker's power handling
and a receiver or amplifier's power rating relate to
one another?
The way to ensure you are
comparing 'apples with apples' and not 'apples with
pears' is to limit your discussion to either RMS
(continuous) power ratings or PEAK power ratings,
but not both. This is because these are two
different ways of rating audio power and to mix them
would lead to both confusion and possible
component damage.
If a speaker is rated to handle
up to 35 watts of peak power, the closer your power
source comes to delivering 35 watts of peak power,
but not more, the better your system will perform.
Choosing a speaker with a reasonable efficiency
(sensitivity) rating of at least 90dB,will ensure
that the speaker is capable of transforming the
electrical power into audio power in a reasonably
efficient manner.
Will my factory fitted radio power
aftermarket speakers?
In most cases, yes. Aftermarket
speakers will certainly sound better with a little
more output power, but most Kenwood speakers will
perform well, even with a factory fitted
radio.
The exceptions are matched
component sets, or 'speaker packages'. Because of
their lower efficiency rating, these speakers really
need a high-powered receiver, or, even better, a
separate power amplifier to perform properly.
What advantage do I gain by
choosing component speakers for my car?
|
With a correctly
powered set of matched components,
you can rely on sound that
better and is noticeably more
detailed and dynamic than you could
expect from conventional speakers.
With most
component speaker sets you get a
separate tweeter for reproducing the
highest notes. Because high notes
are very directional, these need to
be placed where they will benefit
from the most direct path to your
ear. This optimizes your speakers'
imaging and brings out a level of
detail you may have never heard
before. Good quality woofers deliver
forceful, dynamic bass and midrange
and the separate crossover networks
do a great job of properly routing
your highs and lows, to protect your
tweeters and make your system sound
its best. |
